Quick and Dirty Tips
Just found a promising source of speaking tips at The Public Speaker, where Lisa Marshall is host and there are links to other blogs and podcasts (Grammar Girl caught my eye). Will follow Lisa on Twitter for a while and see what she’s up to. If you look at this material, please let us all know what you think.
Teri Harbour Vito attended the meeting on July 25 and John Reynolds, who has just moved to the area, visited and joined our club. He’s an experienced Toastmaster, already a DTM and a seasoned speech contestant. He was kind enough to say that Brinker is one of the top clubs he’s seen anywhere (and he’s spent some time in Afghanistan).
TMTV is in the can!
We’ve finished taping our segment of Mastering Business Communications. Ralph, David, Linda, and Jim took part along with Mike. Special thanks to Viki for dropping off some food and to Jim’s wife for making some dynamite chicken rolls. Here’ a picture of David, Linda, and Ralph on the set. Watch TMTV for for the edited tape in about three weeks.
Pickles
If you heard Bob Miller’s table topics questions yesterday, you’ll enjoy the Pickles comic strip in today’s Washington Post.
MIND MAPPING
Seemed like there were a lot of blank stares in the room last time when Linda showed you all the mindmap I used during my presentation. The mindmap is a natural tool for me, but it doesn’t work for everyone. I just stumbled on this short video in which Tony Buzan, the guy credited with the concept, explains what mindmaps are all about.
I’ve seen other example maps in Buzan’s books and on his web site. I can only wish I could illustrate like that.
