District Governor Lesko Suggests Three Good Reasons to Attend a Winter TLI

Suggestions one and two are quoted from the TI web site; suggestion three is an important reminder for District 27 Toastmasters.

1. Making Second Training Valuable

Tips and tricks for training

Your district’s second round of club-officer training starts in December. Whether the clubs’ officers are beginners or veterans, they should be able to find something of value in second training. With a little care in planning, your district can offer valuable second training for everyone.

For clubs that elect officers annually, emphasize the benefits this second training provides, such as giving officers the opportunity to discuss any problems they may be having, getting advice from district officers and networking with officers of other clubs. Tailor your training to meet their needs, too. For example:

  • If many clubs are losing members, you could conduct The Successful Club Series presentation Moments of Truth as a training session, giving officers that chance to analyze their own clubs and discuss strategies for improving.
  • If clubs aren’t progressing in the Distinguished Club Program, arrange a special discussion of the program. Download the latest reports for the individual clubs from the TI Web site, distribute the reports to their respective officers, then review and discuss the reports and what actions the clubs can take to improve their progress. Also, encourage officers to conduct the presentation titled How to be a Distinguished Club from The Successful Club Series at their club’s next meeting.

For clubs electing semiannually, remind them that this training allows newly-elected officers to learn their roles and responsibilities, to meet district leaders who can help them during their terms and to get new ideas about how to improve their clubs.

2. Club Training Schedule

Follow this schedule!

Your district must train club officers twice per year:

First Training Second Training
Between June 1
and August 31
Between December 1
and February 28
(or February 29 in
leap years)

Clubs with officers attending training receive credit toward the training goal in the Distinguished Club Program. In order for clubs to receive credit, districts must record the training information online through the Club Officer Training Report (You’ll be prompted for your district login).

Record it online by:

September 30  March 31
For the June – August training period For the December – February training period
Additions, changes or corrections to the June – August training information are accepted online through November 30 only. Additions, changes or corrections to the December – February training period are accepted online through May 31 only.

3. Club Leaders can Attend a Town Hall Meeting to Learn of our District

Read all about this strategic initiative in the Winter newsletter and follow our district committee’s work at their web site. Or attend a town hall meeting to learn and discuss our district’s growth and our plan to re-form the district into two districts effective July 1, 2011.
