In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake last week, the people of Haiti need the most basic of care and supplies. More than 750 Toastmasters are located in the Port Au Prince area, one of hardest hit regions.
Setting up a disaster relief fund collection system within the clubs, areas and districts falls outside the charitable and educational purposes of Toastmasters International; however we recognize that many of you would like to lend your support.
Should you want to contribute, we recommend that you contact the American Red Cross. The organization is working with its partners in the global Red Cross and Red Crescent network, including the Haitian Red Cross, and other partners to assist those affected by this disaster. Simply go to www.redcross.org. There you’ll find the How to Help section located in the middle of the page. Simply click on Donate Now and select Haitian Relief and Development from the list of options. There you will be taken to a page where you can register.
District Governor Lesko spotted this announcement on the Toastmasters International web site and thought it was well worth passing on because “(a) It reminds all club officers of TI policy, (b) It’s timely informtion for those who wish to give a donation and help the Haitian people.”
