A Rock Climber’s Rules for Success

Rule 6 is the one that got my attention. Matthew Childs says “Fear really sucks because what it means is you’re not focusing on what you’re doing.” I don’t know why speaking was the first thing I thought of when I heard this, but it’s true. If you’re afraid of whatever, the audience, your appearance, your memory, you’re not concentrating on your message, how important it is, and why you want to say it. Stay focused.

What lessons for speakers can you find in Matthew’s other rules?
