Results are in. As Metaphor of the Year, Metaphors and Beyond has chosen

“‘It’s like moving a crater.’”

addressed with a simile the experience of trying to use MTV expertise to advise GM on how to hear and respond to the voice of a new generation of potential car buyers. Judges and readers alike were struck by the economy, forcefulness, and humor of Ross Martin’s simile. His comparison was called “wry,” “taut,” “elegant,” and “artful” among many other designations of acclaim.
