Fourth of July

NPR helps us remember the words of The Declaration of Independence by broadcasting a reading every year. After you listen, take a look at the finalists’ entries in Slate’s contest to shorten the Declaration to Twitter length. I think you’ll find some of the entries vivid and refreshing. (If you watch HBO, you might also find some inspiration in a broadcast of actors, leaders, and students reading the Declaration, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.) A wonderful holiday to you all.

  1. One more for the Fourth–On this date in 1855, Walt Whitman published Song of Myself. When I remembered this, I also remembered this old flyer for the club. Except that it refers to a former meeting place, it’s still pretty good.
